The Will of
Edward WICKERSON
(1700-1796)

November the tenth 1757
In the Name of God Amen I
Edward Wickerson senr
living in the parish of West Grinstead in the County of Sussex Farmer being
of perfect mind and memory and calling to mind and duly considering the
uncertaintys of human life do make this my last will and Testament First and
principally I commit my Soul into the hands of my Blessed maker trusting in
his merits and in the merits of my Dear Redeemer for the Remission of all my
sins my Body I commit to the Earth to be decently intered at the descrection
of my Executor herein after named First I give and bequeath unto my dearly
beloved wife Frances Wickerson the sum of one hundred and twenty
pounds as long as she keep herself a widow and if she marry again she shall
return [---] to my son Edward Wickerson one hundred pounds at the day
of marriage and also I bequeath to my wife Frances Wickerson one bed
and other household Goods what she shall think proper for her own use next I
bequeath to my Daughter Elizabeth wife of John Heyett Fifty
pounds and also I bequeath to Henry Heyett son of John and
Elizabeth Heyett five pounds five shillings Lastly I give and bequeath
to my son Edward Wickerson all the rest residue and remainder of my
money at my decease and all my debts due to me with all the remaining part
of my Goods and Chattles whatsoever to his use and [---] I do hereby
nominate and appoint my son Edward Wickerson whole and sole Executor
of this my last will and Testament requiring him to pay all my Just Debts
and also the Legacies before mentioned with all convenient speed after my
decease and I declare this only to be my last will and Testament contained
in this one sheet of paper and signed with my own hand and seal in the
presence of witnesses hereunder mentioned The Mark X of Edwd Wickerson
Senr Signed sealed and declared by the said Edward Wickerson Senr to
be be his last will and Testament in the presence of us John Hughes ~
Henry Hughes Junr Richard Pollard
This Will was proved at London the Eleventh Day of January in the year of
our Lord one thousand seven hundred and ninety seven before the worshipful
Samuel [---son Doctor of Laws Surrogate of the Right Honorable Sir
William Wynne Knight also Doctor of Laws master keeper or Commissary
of the Prorogative Court of Canterbury lawfully consitituted by the oath
of Edward Wickerson the son of the deceased and the sole Executor
named in the said will whom administration was to granted of all and
singular the Goods Chattels and Credits of the said deceased having been
first sworn duly to administer
