Joseph TRIGWELL (1754-?)

and Mary SIMMONDS (c1755-?)

 

Joseph Trigwell and Mary Simmonds married by licence on 2 November 1774 in Tarring Neville, Sussex.  He was of Alfriston and she of Heighton.  Their marriage licence was issued on 31 October 1774 by the Archdeaconry of Lewes and recorded that Joseph was a bachelor of Tarring Nevill and married with consent, whilst Mary was a spinster of South Heighton.  (They were not my direct ancestors.)

Joseph Trigwell was born in 1754 in East Dean, Sussex.  He was the son of John Trigwell (1725-1784) and Mary (?-1772).

Mary Simmonds date and place of birth/baptism are unknown, to me.

 

John Trigwell and Mary had 12 known children: 

  1. Joseph Trigwell was baptised on 9 November 1774 in East Blatchington and buried there on 17 November 1774.

  2. Mary Trigwell was baptised on 3 February 1776 in East Blatchington.

    A Mary Trigwell of Ringmer married James Muddel of Uckfield, by banns on 29 November 1795 in Ringmer.  And another Mary Trigwell married Francis Heathcock of the Sussex Militia on 29 October 1799 in Preston, Sussex.  And yet another Mary Trigwell married John Andrews by banns on 4 January 1804 in Brighton.  She was a spinster and he was a bachelor of the Sussex Militia.  They were both of Brighton.

  3. Rebecca Trigwell was baptised on 10 August 1777 in Seaford.

  4. Joseph Trigwell was baptised on 21 November 1778 in Seaford.

    A Joseph Trigwell married Jane Howell on 5 October 1817 in Rye, Sussex.  Joseph was a widower.

  5. John Trigwell was baptised on 8 September 1781 in Seaford.

  6. Charles Trigwell was baptised on 14 October 1783 in Seaford.

    Charles married Lydia Reeds by banns on 11 October 1804 in Alfriston.  He was of Lullington and she was of Alfriston.

    Charles and Lydia had the following child:

    1. Mary Trigwell was baptised on 17 February 1805 in Alfriston.

    2. Charles Trigwell was baptised on 6 July 1806 in Alfriston.

    3. Richard Trigwell was baptised on 20 December 1807 in Alfriston.

    4. Jane Trigwell was baptised on 25 February 1810 in Alfriston.  She may have married Charles Waller by banns on 4 July 1831 in Jevington, Sussex.

    5. Elizabeth Trigwell was baptised on 30 March 1812 in Alfriston.

    6. William Trigwell was baptised on 26 January 1814 in Alfriston.

    7. John Trigwell was baptised on 8 September 1816 in Alfriston.

    8. Lydia Trigwell was baptised on 18 January 1818 in Alfriston.

  7. William Trigwell was baptised on 2 April 1786 in Seaford.

  8. Jenny Trigwell was baptised on 20 April 1788 in Seaford.

  9. Richard Trigwell was baptised on 24 January 1790 in Alfriston.

    Richard married Ann Erssey by banns on 24 July 1813 in Glynde, Sussex.  He was then of West Firle and she was of Glynde and married with consent.

    In 1851 the couple were living at 12 Church Street, Seaford.  Richard was then a 63 agricultural labourer and gave his place of birth as Alfriston.  Ann was 55 and said she was born near Chichester.  Also with them on census night were 3 of their children and 45 year old unmarried visitor, Ann Rose.

    Richard and Ann had the following child:

    1. Henry Trigwell was baptised on 29 October 1815 in Seaford.

    2. Charles Ade Trigwell was baptised on 7 April 1822 in Seaford.

    3. Daniel Trigwell was baptised on 25 January 1824 in Seaford.

    4. James George Trigwell was born on 4 April 1826 and baptised on 17 December 1826 in Seaford.

    5. Mary Jane Trigwell was born on 10 February 1828 and baptised on 16 March 1828 in Seaford.  In 1851 she was an unmarried 23 year old dressmaker living at home with her parents.

    6. Sarah Ann Trigwell was born on 30 March 1830 and baptised on 25 April 1830 in Seaford.

    7. Stephen Trigwell was born on 21 September 1833 and baptised on 10 November 1833 in Seaford.

    8. Reuben Trigwell was born on 19 October 1837 and baptised on 26 November 1837 in Seaford.  In 1851 he was a 17 year old agricultural labourer living at home.

    9. Henry Trigwell was born about 1837 in Seaford.  In 1851 he was a 13 year old agricultural labourer living at home.

  10. Thomas Trigwell was baptised on 18 December 1791 in Alfriston.

    Thomas married Eliza Hearyet by banns on 7 November 1813 in Brighton.  He was a bachelor and she a spinster and they were both of Brighton.

    Thomas and Eliza had the following children:

    1. Eliza Trigwell was baptised on 21 March 1814 at St. Nicholas, Brighton.  She may have married Henry Hemsley by banns on 16 March 1835 in Brighton.  She was a spinster and he a bachelor and they were both of Brighton.

    2. Thomas Trigwell was baptised on 1 December 1816 at St. Nicholas, Brighton.

    3. Mary Anne Trigwell was baptised on 5 March 1820 at St. Nicholas, Brighton.

    4. William Trigwell was baptised on 18 July 1824 at St. Nicholas, Brighton.

    5. Louisa Trigwell was baptised on 10 September 1826 at St. Nicholas, Brighton.  She married George Pilbeam (1822-1898).

    6. Richard Trigwell was baptised on 13 December 1829 at St. Nicholas, Brighton.

    7. Henry Trigwell was baptised on 5 April or 7 July 1833 at St. Nicholas, Brighton.

  11. Charlotte Trigwell was baptised on 26 June 1796 in Alfriston.  She had an illegitimate daughter:

    1. Emily Trigwell was baptised on 14 May 1815 in Alfriston.  She married Henry Peters by banns on 12 April 1835 in Brighton.  She was a spinster and he a bachelor and they were both of Brighton.

    Charlotte may have married William May by banns on 17 February 1817 in Brighton.  She was a spinster and he a bachelor and they were both of Brighton.

 

Did Joseph and Mary also have a son named Henry Trigwell who married Esther Harris by banns on 1 January 1818 in Eastbourne, Sussex?  They were both of Eastbourne.
