The Will of
James RANDOLLE
(1723-1795)

In the Name of God Amen the Seventh day of September
in the Year of our Lord One Thousand Seven hundred and Nintty
foure I James Randolle of the parish of Chithurst in the County of
Sussex husbandman being of perfect mind and memory thanks be given unto
God for it do at my Leasure settle all Differences that may rise between my
children and family Do make and ordain this to be may last will and
testament
I give and disppose of my Goods and Chattells in the following manner and
form First I give unto George Chandler son in Law by Marriage One
Shilling
of good and Lawfull money And unto George Chandler Junior One
Shilling
of good and Lawfull money I give unto James Older or otherwise
Holder son in
Law by Marriage One Shilling of good and Lawfull money I give unto
James Moore son in Law by Marriage One Shilling of good and Lawfull
money
And unto James Moore Junior One Shilling of good and Lawfull money I
give unto Catherine Randolle Daughter in Law by Marriage One Shilling
of
good and Lawfull money And unto Richard Randolle the son of the above
Catherine Randolle One Shilling of Good and Lawfull money if those above
persons should
make a lawfull Demmand thereof Allso I give and bequeath unto Elizabeth Randolle my Wife the sum of Thirty Five pounds of good and lawfull
money to be
paid unto her in a Twelve Months after my decease And allso I give unto my
Wife a quantity of household goods which I name as follows A feather Bed
and Bolster and pillow and Two Blanketts and Three Sheets and a Covernend
Matt and Steddle a Chest of Drawers and One Chest and Box an a Dresser and
Two Shelves and Six Cheanta Dishes and [---] and a Long [---] and a
Wash Tub and Two Barrells a Tea Kittlle a Round Leafe Table Two Chairs and
a Middle size porriage pot Cast Iron a Cottroli and a Red painted [---]
and all other small things that she shall Lawfully say she bought with her
when I married her and she is to stay in my house and have her living and
liviehood with William Gosden and Rebecca his Wife till her
aforesaid Thirty
5 pounds are paid Allso I give and bequeath unto William Gosden son
in
Law by Marriage Six pounds of good and lawfull money to be paid unto him
And allso I give unto the said William Gosden the lease and
possession of
the farm which I hold and pay rent for situated and lying at Home Hill in
the parish of Chithurst I give him sole power to hold the said Lease as long
as the Lease Lasteth with the Rights and priviage belonging thereto and if
William Gosden do not like to hold the farm that I have in my
possession he is
not to sell nor give the Lease to no other person or persons but is to lett
my
son John have it and hold the same if William Gosden do not
like to hold it And my Will is when all things are settled and the above leagcies are all
paid
and all charges whatsoever are paid and all things settled whatsoever what
there
is to pay and what remains of my Goods and Chattles within Doors & Out Doors
by me in any ways and that is unto me in any ways when all is paid
and what there is remaining is to be divided into foure equal parts between
my
four children that is John Randolle ~ Lidia Pearson ~ Dina
Randolle and Rebecca Gosden this One Son and Three Daughters are all to go share and share
all alike when all is paid I do hereby discountt all other Wills and declare this to be no
other but my Last Will and Testament In Witness I have set my hand and
seale this 7 day of September 1794 as above written James Randolle X
his mark Signed Sealed and Declared by the said James Randolle as his last Will and Testament in the presence of us whose names are
subscribed

Administration of and singluar the Goods Chattles and
under 300 credits (with the Will or Letters Testamentary annexed) of
James Randoll deceased was granted to John Randoll natural
and lawfull son and one of the next of Kin of the Deceased
To whom [---] well and truly [---] sworn [---]
The above will was transcribed by me, Mandy Willard, on 9 July 2006 from a
photocopy of the original document held at the West Sussex Record Office,
reference STCI/45 fol. 132.
