John NORRIS (1694-?)

and Margaret VIRGO (c1695-?)

 

John Norris and Margaret Virgo may have been my 6x Great Grandparents.  (Click here to see their possible place in my pedigree chart.)  They married on 10 June 1716 in Lancing, Sussex.  Their marriage was also recorded in the New Shoreham, Sussex parish register which recorded that John was of Hurst (Hurstpierpoint, Sussex).

John Norris was baptised on 11 March 1693/4 in Cuckfield, Sussex.  He was the son of Thomas Norris (1665-1731) and Catherine Dawes (1667-?).  He may have been buried on 13 July 1723 in Cuckfield.

Margaret Virgo's date and place of birth/baptism are unknown, to me.  She may have been the daughter of Richard Virgo and Ann Courner who married on 5 November 1681 in Old Shoreham, Sussex.

 

John Norris and Margaret Virgo had 5 known children:

  1. Elizabeth Norris was baptised on 14 July 1717 in Cuckfield.

  2. John Norris was baptised on 22 March 1718/9 in Cuckfield.  He may have been buried on 16 February 1776 or 24 April 1777, both burials in Cuckfield.  John married Jane Hazelgrove on 17 April 1746 in Cuckfield.  Jane may have been buried on 19 March 1765 in Cuckfield.  John and Jane had at least 2 children:

    1. John Norris was baptised on 9 January 1746/7 in Cuckfield.  He died aged 56 years and was buried on 21 August 1803 in Cuckfield.

    2. Richard Norris was baptised on 6 February 1757 in Cuckfield.  He married Mary Dumbrell by banns on 15 April 1781 in Cuckfield.  They were both then of Cuckfield.  Richard and Mary had the following children:

      1. Joseph Norris was baptised on 10 February 1793 in Lindfield, Sussex.

      2. Mary Norris was baptised on 10 February 1793 in Lindfield.

      3. Jane Norris was baptised on 28 June 1795 in Lindfield.

      4. Martha Norris was baptised on 1 August 1799 in Lindfield.

  3. Ann Norris was baptised on 8 October 1721 in Cuckfield.

  4. Thomas Norris was baptised on 13 January 1722/3 in Cuckfield.  He may have been buried on 20 September 1731 in Cuckfield, but this burial may refer to his Grandfather.

  5. Richard Norris may have been my 5x Great Grandfather.  He was baptised on 24 October 1725 in Cuckfield.  He married Mary Penfold in 1754.  (They have their own page.)
