Thomas MITCHELL (1619-1685)

and Sarah STEEL (1637-?)

 

Thomas Michell and Sara Steele were my 8x Great Grandparents.  They married on 19 May 1655 in Horsham, Sussex.  At the time he was of Bolney and she of Cuckfield and they were married by Mr. Michell of Horsham.  Their marriage was also recorded in the Bolney register on 28 May 1655.

Thomas Mitchel was baptised on 12 September 1619 in Bolney.  He was the youngest son of Walter Mitchell (c1580-1641) and Elizabeth Parson.  Thomas may have been buried on 3 July 1685 in Bolney, but this burial may have been of his son.

Sarah Steel was baptised on 16 July 1637 in Cuckfield, Sussex.  She was the youngest daughter of Edward Steel (c1595-1664) and Joane Burt (c1600-1670).

 

Thomas Mitchell and Sarah Steel had 5 known children:

  1. Thomas Michell was baptised on 25 March 1656 in Bolney.  He may have been buried on 14 January 1691/2 in Bolney, but this burial may have been of his father.

  2. Joan Michell, my 7x Great Grandmother, was baptised on 1 November 1657 in Bolney.  She married James Matthews in 1680.  (They have their own page.)

  3. Edward Michell was born in February 1659/60 in Bolney, at which time his father was described as "Thomas Michell at mill".  Edward was buried in Bolney on 24 April 1660.

  4. John Michell was born on 24 June 1661 in Bolney.

  5. Sara Michell was born on 13 July and baptised on 19 July 1663 in Bolney.
