John KNIGHT (1805-?)

and Elizabeth (c1814-?)

 

John Knight may have married Elizabeth Mitchell by licence on 4 August 1832 in Southwick, Sussex.  The witnesses to their marriage were Edward Dowlen and Charles Fuller.  Their marriage licence was issued the day before by the Archdeaconry of Lewes, and recorded that he was a bachelor of Southwick aged 21 years and upwards, whilst she was a minor of Cowfold and married with the consent of Thomas Mitchell..  (They were not my direct ancestors.)

John Knight was baptised on 10 February 1805 in Shermanbury, Sussex.  He was the son of Thomas Knight (1781-1857) and Mildred Thompset.

Elizabeth may have been born about 1814 in Eastbourne, Sussex.  Might she have been the daughter of Thomas Mitchell and Elizabeth Reynolds who had married on 10 January 1814 in Rodmell, Sussex?

 

John Knight and Elizabeth had 7 known children:

  1. Eliza Knight was baptised on 3 November 1836 in Shermanbury.

  2. John Knight was baptised on 20 October 1839 in Shermanbury.  He was a 12 year old errand boy in 1851.

  3. Mary Knight was baptised on 23 June 1844 in Shermanbury.  She was a 6 year old scholar in 1851.

  4. Elizabeth Reynolds Knight was baptised on 20 June 1847 in Shermanbury.  In 1851 she was 4 years old.

  5. Thomas Knight was baptised on 3 February 1850 in Shermanbury.  He was a year old when the 1851 census was recorded.

  6. Thirza Knight was baptised on 9 January 1853 in Shermanbury.  As Teresa Knight she married Henry Richardson in 1875.  (They have their own page.)

  7. Ruth Knight was baptised on 3 February 1856 in Shermanbury.
