My Hyland Ancestors

I believe Ann Hyland was my 6x Great Grandmother.  She was born in 1724 in Ringmer, Sussex.  According to the marriage register she married John Boxall in 1754 in Ringmer, but I believe his name was wrongly recorded and that he was John Beck (1725-?).  John and Ann named their first child Sarah Hiland Beck.

Ann was the daughter of George Hyland and Elizabeth Stanley (1686-1752).  They married in Ringmer in 1723, which is where Elizabeth was baptised.

Other Hyland Families

I am told that the Ann Hyland baptised in 1724 in Ringmer, married Stephen Chrisford on 15 January 1750/1 in Sedlescombe, Sussex, and not John Boxall/Beck.  Stephen and Ann had 6 known children:  Elizabeth, William, Lucy, John, Ann and Stephen.

However, I believe that the Ann Hyland who married Stephen Chrisford, was baptised on 19 March 1724/5 in Sedlescombe, the daughter of William Hiland and Elizabeth Snow, who had married in Mountfield, Sussex in 1707.

Other children of William and Elizabeth were:  Elizabeth Hiland (1708-?), Jane Hiland (1711-1712), Lucy Hiland (1714-?), William Hiland (1716-?), John Hiland (1718-1718), Henry Hiland (1719-?), Thomas Hiland (1721-1742) and finally Ann Heyland (1725-?).

Mr. William Hyland, senior, was buried on 19 January 1746 in Sedlescombe.  He left a Will in which he mentioned his daughter Ann.

(Ringmer to Sedlescombe is about 20 miles as the crow flies, more like 25-30 by road.)

William Hyland may have been baptised on 13 November 1681 in Ticehurst and have been the son of Thomas Hyland and Susan Clifton.  Elizabeth Snow was baptised on 4 December 1682 in Sedlescombe and was the daughter of Thomas Snow and Ann Martin.
