The Will of

William BRIGGS (?-1718)

In the Name of God Amen I William Briggs of Horsham in the County of Sussex Carpenter being infirme in Body but of sound and perfect mind & memory for which I blesse God I make and declare this my last Will & Testament First and principally I resigne my Soul into the hands of Allmighty God hoping through the merits of the Death and passion of my Saviour Jesus Christ to have free pardon & forgiveness of all my Sins & to inherit everlasting life my body I comitt to the earth to be decently buried at the discretion of my Execx herein after named the Estate which it hath pleased God to dispose & bestow upon me I dispose of in manner following Imprimi I give & bequeath to my loving Wife Sarah Briggs all that my house wherein I now live with all my Goods & Chattells thereinto belonging together with all my Stock of Timber in the yard & elsewhere And also all my Book Debts & all monies that I have out on any Interest whatsoever during her life for and towards the maintenance and bringing up of my Children and after the Decease of my said Wife Sarah I give and bequeath unto my eldest son William Briggs the said house he now lives in with the Outhouse & Backside & appurtenances thereunto belonging to him & his heires forever he paying out of the said house the sum of fforty pounds towards raising portions for my younger Children Item I give & bequeath to my eldest Daughter Elizabeth Briggs the sum of ffifty pounds to be paid unto her within two months aftr the decease of my said Wife Sarah And I give and bequeath unto my youngest Daughter Sarah Briggs the sum of ffifty pounds And I also give & bequeath to my second son John Briggs the sum of sixty pounds to be paid to him with two months after the Decease of my said Wife Sarah And I also give & bequeath unto my youngest son Henry Briggs the sum of sixty pounds to be paid to him within two months of the Decease of my said Wife Sarah And my Will & desire is that if there be any Overplus after the Legacies above mentioned are paid that it should be equally divided amongst all my said Children that shall be then living Also my Will & desire is to constitute and ordain my loving Friends John Jones Mason Jacob Coffin yeom and John Dendy yeom Trustees of this my last Will aforesaid & I make & ordaine my loving Wife Sarah Briggs to be Executrix to this my last Will & Testament In Witness whereof I the said William Briggs to this my last Will & Testament being contained in one sheet of paper sett & affixed my hand and seal this ffour and twentieth day of September in the fifth year of the reigne of our Sovereign Lord George by the grace of God King of Great Britain Anno Dom 1718 - William Briggs
