The AKEHURST Families of Sussex

So far, I have no known Akehurst ancestors of my own.

Quiet by chance in early August 2004 I met Judith Akhurst at the ESRO.  She suggested that I attend the up coming Akehurst Family Reunion in Battle over the weekend of 11/12/13 September 2004.  Which I did and it was thoroughly enjoyable.  Grateful thanks to Morwenna Akehurst for organising the event.

I have 2 convoluted links to the Akehurst family:

  1. One of my cousin's Great Grandmothers was Eliza Caroline Akehurst, who was born in 1873 in Portslade, Sussex.  She married Albert Thomas Gathern in 1892, and they were the parents of my cousin's Grandfather David William Gathern (1895-1953).  David's daughter, Violet Lucy Gathern (1928-1999) married my Mum's brother Dennis Noel Tullett and they are the parents of my cousin.

Eliza Caroline Akehurst was the daughter of Samuel Akehurst (c1839-1896) and Eliza Pumfrey (1840-1902) who married 1859 in Hove.  According to the census, Samuel was born about 1839 in Eastbourne, Sussex and was probably the son of Thomas Akehurst  (c1802-1876) and Anna Maria Martin (1803-1872).  But this is as far as I have got for the moment.

  2. The sister of my 2x Great Grandfather - Frederick Edward Boorman (1846-1884) - was Isabella Boorman (1839-1902).  She married George Weeks (1834-?) in Wadhurst, Sussex in 1857.  George was the son of William Weeks (1804-?) and Ann Piper (1805-1841), and William was the son John Weeks (1776-?) and Philadelphia Akehurst.
